The history of Iranian society oral & maxillofacial surgeons

The first activities about association establishment started in 1974, then the first public reunion was taken placed with the presence of 6 specialist of that era consisted of Dr.Bahram Javid(Shiraz), Dr Farmarz Safarnia, Dr Abolhasan Mesgarzadeh, Dr Morteza Moeeinzadeh, Dr bahram Malakooti, Dr Esmaeel Yazdi, after the early sessions in 1975,and Dr Esmael Yazdi wsa elected as head of managing council.
The title of oral and jaw surgery was changed to oral & maxillofacial surgery after the continues efforts in 1982,but no name changing happened in license of association until 1993.
The last election of association was done in 2006 with presence of more than 150 specialist of that era, and Dr Hosein Mortazavi was elected as head of association.
We mention some of this association such as managing of 3 international congress, presenting educational courses for specialist and dentists, protecting our major rights against other majors' attracts and activities which overlap our works, and publishing of paper and scientific and research magazine..

Iran Population is 75/000/000 and 1648000 Sq kilometer large.
The number of Iranian Medical council members are 195/000 including M.D., D.M.D., pharmacist, Nursing-specialist.
The number of Dentist is 24/000.
The number of Dental specialists is 23/000.
The number of Dental school is 18 with 6 years program.
The number of dental school students approximately 5500.
OMFS Residency programs are 8.
Length of Residency Program is 5 years.
The total number of Resident is 75.
The number of OMFS is 160.
Our Society established 1975.
Residency program started 1975.
The number of plastic surgeons is 130
The number of ENT is 1200
Base of Residency education comparable to U.S .
Scope of OMFS is full Scope with facial cosmetic surgery.
